Dr. Moldwin covers just about every question on IC. This really is the best book. I have purchased eight books on IC and three on Pelvic Floor Disorder, and dozens of supplements. I have been desperate to find a cure but did not fully understand IC until I read this book. One can tell Dr Moldwin actually cares about IC sufferers because of the long explanations on everything. I wish I could find a urologist or urogyn with just half of his knowledge and caring. I have had IC for two years and I am in constant pain. My PCP had not heard of it; a urogynecologist just did a cystoscopy and told me to go to Pelvic Floor Exercises, without any explanation; a urologist told me food and drinks had no impact on "cystitis" and a gnecologist had not heard of it and had nothing to offer for the vulvar pain. The only doctor who had heard of it was a young intern/resident who was accompanying the specialist, but was not involved with me as a patient.IC sufferers are badly neglected by the medical profession who seem to only want to do "procedures" and prescribe pharmaceuticals. But there is hope that we will get help, and the best way is to read this book and understand this illness, and then try to find a doctor who has heard about IC and shows a real interest in the IC patient.

The cover of this book reads "Your Guide to the Latest Treatment Options and Coping Strategies". As the book was published in 2000, that statement is no longer completely accurate. Although it does contain some good basic information, I wish I had noted the publication date before I ordered it.

First let me say I do a lot of research on health and have published articles on natural remedies. When I first got IC I read, "Solving the Interstitial Cystitis Puzzle: A Guide to Natural Healing" which is also a good book that I recommend but it only covers "alternative treatments" and is based largely on the theory that your Ph level controls IC. Which I think highly of the Ph theory overall, and do think it helps to alkalize your body, it is not going to cure most cases of IC. Plus, it takes longer and when your privates are on fire and you're running to the bathroom every 5-10 mins you want relief ASAP. Thus, I would read this book first then the other."The Interstitial Cystitis Survival Guide: Your Guide to the Latest Treatment Options and Coping Strategies" does offer therapies that can help immediately or much faster. One of which is the prescription Drug, Elmiron which I have found to be a Godsend at first (in 2007 it was $230, now it's up to $570 so I no longer buy it but if you have insurance it should be covered as it is FDA approved for IC).If you have IC I highly recommend both books. Each book offers different ideas, solutions and remedies and since all IC patients suffer from different foods and in different ways, you really need both books.While you are waiting on your books, drink lots of water. Water helps a lot. Usually 2 large glasses makes a noticeable difference from wanting to jump out of your body to "tolerable". Bring water wherever you go. I leave a case of water in my trunk.I usually wake up "burning" or right after I urinate in the morning. This helps a lot, not sure if all of them contribute, but this is my concoction of supplements before bed with a FULL glass of water. Yes, you may have to wake to pee but it beats burning: Omega-3 (very important to have quality fish oil I buy LEF brand), Calcium Citrate, hyaluronic acid, NAC, magnesium, MSM, Fucoidan 70%. The Fucoidan & hyaluronic acid are pricey, so you can try w/o them at first. If you can afford at least one of them get hyaluronic acid because it helps keep tissue hydrated. When hyaluronic acid is intact and functioning normally, it protects the skin and nerves. Conversely, when hyaluronic acid breaks down, whole tissue collapses, and thins, making the nerves more accessible to pain producing molecules. The pieces of hyaluronic acid that result from this degradation attract blood vessels to the area, and an inflammatory state results. As an added bonus it is supposed to help with collagen & wrinkles :)Stay away from alcohol (especially beer), sodas and chlorinated water. It is worth it to buy bottled water (I also use Britta & ). I recommend Deer Park water because it's Ph is 8 (and the plastic bottle is thinner than traditional water bottles thus, not as harmful to the environment).Good Luck and feel free to ask me any Qs!

This really helped me to understand my disease as well as the Interstitial Cystitis website and forum, those people are wonderful, my doctors were useless.

So far I've learned a lot about ic and the different treatments. I have taken it to my dr to go over with because it seems to be a thing not many know much about. I can find all the information on the Internet with lots of searching, so this makes it easier for me because it's all in one place.

This does not help with ic at all. All the book literally does is say what ic is and what kind of prescription medications there are to help. He doesn’t talk about diet or any other holistic ideas. Wish I could return this book.

I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis (or, as I affectionately call it, IC) in 2012. This illness is hard to treat and manage, and is extremely painful and life-changing. This book is a MUST if you have been diagnosed with IC. There were treatments in here that I've been using, and some I had never even thought to try. Obviously, not every treatment works for every patient, but there are multiple ideas in here that may help you.

Did not have the alternative medicines that I was hoping for, but does give a pretty thorough review of everything Western medicine can do you for you, which isn't that great now that Elmiron is priced so high that even with insurance coverage it is almost impossible to afford. Worth a look if you are suffering.
