I love the poetry, not the stories. The book, I am told, includes what was originally three skimpy volumes of poetry. These poems all together make up a wonderful collection of Mrs. Parker's poetry and the introduction was also very good as I recall. In fact, it was from the introduction that I learned that Mrs. Parker liked to be referred to as Mrs. Parker. I don't understand all of her poems. They can be obscure at times. But at times her poetry will leave me rolling in convulsive laughter; and at other times will just leave me with a smile on my face. Her poetry can be very morbid and morose at times. But she compliments her depression both with fatalism and humor. I love about half of the poems in this book. I think that is worth FIVE STARS!

I have always found the "Lost Generation" and their literature the most romantic, mysterious and fascinating of all American Literature. The Gilded Age, The flappers, prohibition, the ensuing great depression made the writers from the Algonquin Round Table a blessed gift to America and its literature lovers. My appetite for it is insatiable....From poetry to the silver screen this book includes an honest "BEST OF" Dorothy Parker" Her writings will put a smile on anyone's face!

It dawned on me one day when I was reading a Parker quote that I've never really immersed myself in her writings. I've read bits and pieces in anthologies and enjoyed every word. This is a lovely little book. I kept it on my desk for taking literary breaks. Every time I find a piece that takes my breath away or makes me laugh out loud. I'm thinking of framing the cover, kudos to the designer -it's beautiful.

Who could not appreciate Dorothy Parker and her frank way of dealing with life. I've laughed, giggled, and shared her poetry with family members. A terrific collection of her poetry and short stories. How did I live without her in my life to this point! Love this look at her and her work.

She was today's woman before it was acceptable to be so. She's somewhat of a man hater and it comes out in a lot of her work. She writes from very dark and serious to outright funny. "Boys don't make passes at girls who wear glasses." My grandmother used to day that! Ha-ha!

Super great addition to any book collection

Dorothy Parker is the original American "smart talking dame," and the poems and the stories which make up this collection reveal her acute insight and understanding of the position American women in the first part of the 20th century. She writes briefly but with a wicked wit and exacting craft. Dorothy Parker does for poetry and prose what Kathryn Hepburn does for movies!

I like her writing style.
