I could not have finished my business plan without this book. As someone who is new to being in the captain's chair, I was really struggling with how to set prices for services. This book gave me some creative ideas - and rational reasons for what I was choosing to do. It's not too lengthy a read, not overly jargon-riddled. It gets right to the point. While I wish it had more examples of ways implement some of the strategies, it does give enough to get a person thinking.I bought the digital edition. It was adequate and this was not a book where anything was diminished by going with the digital version. It was nice to have it on my phone AND iPad - I could read it faster because it was always available.

I've never been a numbers person, I studied media and communications and worked for 10 years doing things like copy-writing, video making, photography, social media, etc.A couple of months ago I decided to start my own company with very little budget from savings. I spent a couple of months doing some research and planning until the question finally appeared: how much you will charge? I freaked out, I had no idea. Actually I had an idea based on what others charge but assuming others were charging correctly didn't quite feel right to me. So I decided to get a book on pricing strategy and picked this one almost randomly (based on customer average reviews).It is great. It has given me enough information to get the right pricing for my services with just enough rationality and without feeling I wish I studied economics. If you actually studied economics, marketing or something like that I guess you won't think and feel like I am right now. For the rest of you: get this book!

If you are a business owner (or at all concerned with your company's longevity and prosperity) this is an excellent book to read with some powerful seeds of ideas, that if you'll take a minute to think about, you can easily integrate into what you're doing. This book helped us increase profits significantly (and all with very small pieces added to what we were already doing).

I am enjoying reading Rafi Mohammed's book and his theories are very informative. I'm going to share this book with my husband who has to work with corporate budgets everyday and also my son who is a Regional Manager for his company.

A lot of ideas are discussed but noth enough math for the reader to build practical pricing models...good for gaining insights though...

The Name of and concept for the book is a bit of a gimmick. I was concerned that the whole book would really be dedicated to increasing prices by 1% to realize a "windfall". Luckily, that is not the case. In fact, that concept is but a very small portion of the book.This book is fantastically detailed and encompassing for the field of product/service-pricing. It covers all of the different pricing strategies and goes over how to evaluate and implement them.I HIGHLY recommend anyone who plays a role in produce or service pricing read this book. My only complaint is that I would've liked to have seen a bit more information on the differences between pricing in different business models.

What a beautiful book! Hardcover and full of the most deliciuous information. Mr. Burness has compiled, from his own collection of original railroad advertising a real time travel to explain us in the words of the railroads themselves (and some related industries-even Lionel), the evolution, successes and problems of American rail industry. The ads are sorted in alphabetical order by company name. From the 20's and 30's going through that heroic period of WW II and the postwar years and coming to Amtrak, you will witness the introduction of dome cars, the new trains like the California Zephyr, new technical achivements and so on. Reading this book you will feel the fallen flags so alive that is difficult to realize that most of them disappeared 30 or 40 years ago.And it is not only the trains. Reading these ads you will be back in time in the United States of yesterday. The problems, the people and their fashions, etc. You will really enjoy this book.

An interesting book of over two hundred passenger train ads that appeared in mass-market magazines. Each one fills a page with an informative caption. None of them would have won any design awards, mostly they follow the predictable format of illustration, headline, text and small pictures and as these are train ads, the little route map.However, within this predictable (and sucessful) format you will see some great artwork, page 17 shows a 1945 American Locomotives ad with a stunning painting of a railroad yard with five streamliners, pages 52-53 has two Leslie Ragan paintings for the Budd Company. The Shell ad on page 186 looks like it was straight out of something painted by Bruce McCall (it wasn't) and there are thirteen pages of great New York Central ads that all feature cut-away illustrations.As well as great art don't forget the copy. I'm pleased to see included the New Haven RR's 'The Kid In Upper 4' one of the most famous ads of the war years, read it and appreciate copywriting at its creative best. I never knew what the term 'highball' meant until I read the copy in the Pennsylvania RR ad on page 169-169.I would have given this book five stars but like so many pictorial books the publishers have not taken the presentation seriously enough. Here the none of the ads have a definable edge, they just float in the white space on each page, easily solved by running a very thin black line round the ads original size or better still use a grey vignette drop shadow behind them. The typography of the title, contents, index pages etc is very bland and unimaginative. There are five ads that run across spreads but they don't, each has a thick white margin either side of the middle of the book, doing this is as bad as not correcting typos.If you like railroad advertisments have a look at 'All-American Ads 40's' by Jim Heimann, a massive 764 page book that has (in color) thirty five of them in the chapter on travel.

As a model railroader I found the color and style shown in this book gave an idea of the sort of period feel I want to recreate. My railroad, based on the S.P. is meant to generate an idealization of the time and place, not a slavish adherence to prototypical realism. This book has given my some great modeling ideas. I highly recommend it.

This is a brand new, 2001 hardback 224 page library volume that will please every railroad and advertising fan. It features 224 pages with 212 outstanding color photos of train ads of every description. The photos look as good or better than the originals. This covers the period of 1920s through the 1950s. There is an emphasis on how the passengers in the postwar period enjoyed the delight of train travel. Plenlty of interesting text is provided. A delightful work.

This is a fascinating book for those interested in the transition era of railroading and the advertising that was created in this era. The book is a collection of nearly 200 classic print advertisment that appeared in magazines during the 1940's, 50's and 60's. The ads range from railroad specific ads, with extensive coverage of the Union Pacific, Pennsylvania, New York Central and Great Northern railroads. Most other major railroads are represented with some pages in the book. In addition to railraod specific ads, this book has lots of ads from the manaufacturers of railroad equipmemt, including EMD and Pullman, along with others.If you are interested in railroad art, or are interested in the transition era of the railroads, this is a book for you. This book is a quality publication and the reproduction effort is quite good. This book is a welcome part of my library and covers a neglected area of railroad history.

An interesting book for the nostalgia contained. If you are over 50, you can remember the trains and the ad.

The book is an excellent overview of railroad advertising illustrations. I would have liked some more on the artists and ad agencies, but the artwork is great.

About the Author

Having lived through the cold-war years, I was truly impressed with this book while reading it ln its Kindle version. Although the movie Argo is well-known, it is only a small part of this author’s story. What was most interesting to me were the years this painter-turned spy spent behind the iron curtain under disguise. The book also discusses the stories of the turncoats in the service and those defectors from the other side who lost big.Some of the things the author talked about in the book made me think that maybe I shouldn’t be knowing or reading these things as they might have something to do with the welfare of my country, but the author clarified this concern by saying that his book was checked out by those who knew these things and what he relates to the general public is already known by the other side. In any case, now that he is retired from the service, the author has turned to painting again in his home in Knoxville.The writing is clear and easily understandable, and I found the entire story stunning.The bottom line is, I was amazed by the incredible courage the people in the CIA and other such services have shown and possibly still are continuing to show. If it did nothing, this book has been good for making us aware of that purpose.

This is a fascinating story about how the CIA works and the courage and dedication and tremendous resourcefulness and intelligence it takes to be a successful agent told by one of the best, Antonio Mendez. One of my favorite genres is the spy thriller and I have read well over a hundred of the novels written since World War II. I have so much respect and admiration for Agent Mendez who spent tens of thousands of hours learning the tradecraft of the CIA, adding to it his own specialty of costume disguise and the use of makeup learned from Hollywood. This extremely effective new tradecraft saved many lives whether agents or kidnapped citizens, such as the 6 American diplomats who were Iranian hostages. These 6 diplomats were given completely new identities and fortunately left Iran safely. Tony Mendez was one of the very best who created an important tradecraft and used it to rescue many of our own agents as well as facilitating defections of foreign agents who were trying to defect to the US. The extreme concentration and dedication and intelligence needed to learn many forms of tradecraft is just stunning. And the incredible courage needed to be an agent when the slightest error can mean death or unspeakable torture for the agents and victims involved is just so admirable.

This is the autobiography of Antonio Mendez, the CIA officer behind the exfiltration of six Americans during the Iran hostage crisis in the 1970s. This operation was the basis of the movie Argo. Some procedures seem obvious once you read about them, but were useful again and again in the field. For example, shipping containers equipped with automatic cameras sent through Warsaw Pact countries yielded volumes of information about routes, customs procedures, and security personnel. Buildings, vehicles and people were inspected repeatedly, but nobody thought to check the containers.Equally fascinating is the information the book does not present. Most CIA officers and agents are referred to only by code names or aliases. Times and locations are reported only generally. Readers also become conscious of a trend as the narrative proceeds. Details of all kinds are increasingly reduced, altered, or glossed over to protect techniques still in use and officers still on active duty. What we learn about spycraft becomes all the more impressive as we realize it must be out of date or we would not be reading about it.The book is an enjoyable read and teaches lessons about careful work as well as innovation under pressure. Like film making, creating exhibitions is a complex creative team-based endeavor. The book is best suited for someone who aspires to be part of, and lead, exhibition teams in museums (particularly science and history museums, or more audience-centric art museums). It is like being a fly on the wall of a conversation among the most experienced and creative professionals in the field. The reader may not come out with a systematic "how-to" schematic, but s/he will have a vocabulary for dealing with the myriad complexities of the process and it will be a useful reference for dealing with these complexities as they arise.It is a must have resource in the relatively small library of authoritative exhibition books for anyone who wants to deepen their skill and expand their vocabulary of strategies in creating exhibitions.

To be sure, given that Polly is my daughter, what I have to say is subject to a discount factor. Having spent 50 plus years in the Law (trial lawyer, judge, arbitrator, mediator, etc) I thought I knew most all needed to bring about a just result, but Polly has now taught me the finesse, the savoir-faire, which I may have been seeking. Her book is a MUST READ for those in the expanded world of academia, especially the practitioners of museum exhibitions, who seek the glue necessary to adjust to opposing views in order to reach a common goal.

This book takes a thorough look at creating exhibitions. It serves as both instruction and as a reminder of why we do the things we do (visitor testing, formulate goals, etc.). I see myself referring to and rereading this book for years to come. Beyond just being applicable for those in the Museum Field, I feel the content provided will have broader impacts. (A friend and Urban Planner is currently using it to help her plan and structure community forums and meetings.)Beyond actual content, I really appreciated how the book didn't just advocate a collaborative approach to creating exhibitions that account for many voices. The book is actually structured in the same way: a range of museum professionals act as guest writers and provide personal insight on topics.

This book puts on paper what many of us have learned the hard way. The authors recognize that creating exhibits like most creative endeavors takes place in a real world of budgets, schedules and competing expectations. Creativity by committee is not an oxymoron. It is the way most of us have to work. This book shows us the way to do it well.

Although I have not yet read the whole book, I like the way the chapters flow and the many essays from people in different disciplines. We read how these people put the authors' ideas into practice. Also the graphics imaginatively and concretely help get the authors' points across. I especially liked the essay which was titled " An Art Historian's Perspective." If you are interested in attending or creating exhibitions, you will greatly enjoy this book. You can see that the authors' took their own advice, when they collaborated on this book.

This is a highly readable, extremely helpful book for novices and pros alike. Written in an engagingly conversational manner, this book will shortly become the standard handbook for museum professionals.

This worked well for putting my old pennies in. I like that there is not dates stamped on it, You can use a marker to write your own dates on it instead. Great way to display my old coins so air dont get to them.

It's both great and strange to have a coin book that has absolutely no dates in it. Gets the job done, however, since they haven't released a book that has the latest years in it, so I have the latest coins on the left pockets and other special cents that I am stockpiling for when I complete other books and want to start a new one.

The Lincoln plain folders do what they are designed to do. It allows me to organize my cents any way I choose. Coins are easy to put in and well made. Nice way to display my coins. I can also easily take out a coin and replace it with a better conditioned one if I want to. Good folder.

Everyone who works politically only to ban abortion by law because of the laudable moral intent of viewing all life as sacred should read this book.The Ceaucescu government of Romania, because of Catholicism, banned abortion completely.I guess the dictator went to bed with a clear conscience every night, which probably was enough for him.The results - those orphanage filled with toddlers untouched, untaught, and unnurtured, standing in cribs with their arms out every time a non-profit person trying to help entered the room; young women with ruined reproductive systems because in desperation they sought to end a pregnancy but found none but butchers to end their situation, which might have included being killed by their families for honor (they will never be mothers when they want to be, as a result) - and a culture in which everyone lied about everything out of fear and need to cover-up the most private shame - were morally disastrous.Abortion is not the only drama. Saving the planet and caring for one another, even to the point of sacrificing some of our own "pure" conscience, and comfortable lifestyles, is what true morality requires of us if we dare respond with love. This book was brought to my attention by my son who read it as an undergraduate at Brown University. It's a bit of a slog. But a necessary one. The "abortion wars" in the US have bee manipulated by a cruel oligarchy who thinks nothing of letting living people die if they can't afford health care, or of turning our children into cannon fodder for wars by which they, not people here or abroad, profit.

This book speaks of the heartaches of scores of women due to a misguided 1966 Decree that was meant to create a new generation of socialists by removing birth control from the options available to the people. Although this is a book about women and their special struggles, as a man I found it interesting. My wife is Romanian and can corroborate many of the stories of these women to be true (or at least reasonable). But I'm also grateful that Gail Kligman didn't dwell on the sensationalism that the popular Western press loved to print following the Decree. In fact, she denies much of the fanciful stuff written to sell newspapers. There weren't masses of perverted bosses standing there watching gynecological exams. But the author does stress the heart-wrenching, personal stories of women who were forced to deal with this foolish Decree 770, many times to the detriment of their health or life.

Although the history that Kligman is writing about is horrific, this is an excellent resource for those involved in the global struggle for women's reproductive justice. This is the best book I have found that explains the shocking unintended consequences when a government bans all contraception and forces women to become baby factories. The resulting appalling conditions for the citizenry and the social fabric of a nation are well described and should be a lesson to natalists around the world who interfere with women's' intimate decisions. Buy this book, read it and share it.

I'm an American woman living and working in Romania, and I have to disagree with Alexandru. From all I hear from my friends both male and female, this book isn't off-target at all. It IS true that many people say Ceasescu's policies didn't affect their lives "all that much", but the people who did have unwanted pregnancies or were harassed because they didn't have enough children were and are real people. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone interested in reproductive issues -- in either Romania or the U.S.
