The book's content is easy to read and understand; however, all of the concepts are readily available for free on the internet- just search for swing trade strategies. The author's internet site [...] seems abandoned, with many of the articles written more than two years ago and more than a few of the links broken- most notably the stock screener link. The links to his $2,500 courses seem to work just fine though.
This is a no-nonsense, very well written trading strategies book, with statistical back-tracing to support its claims.There are two major messages in the book, and anything else in the book rotates around these claims:1. Always Trust long term momentum (never buy the market when it is below its 200 days moving average) and2. Buy short-term lows, sell short-term highs.That's all.I did test the statistical results and did get results that are consistent with the book. But as it is always the case, back-tracing is not a proof for future results, no matter how good the past results are.A problem which I found with the statistical analysis, is that it completely ignores risk factors, such as standard deviation and the Sharpe ratio and also, their is no evidence for the robustness of the strategies and their susceptibility to small parametric changes.The book is pretty close in its contents to the corresponding website:[...] which caused me to feel that the $50 spent on this book aren't justified.Summary:Pros:- Very well written.- Clear reading. Easy to implement the strategies.- Substantial statistical backing of each and every strategy.Cons:- Too expensive: very similar to the web site- Statistical analysis does not cover risk aspects- Poor coverage for short and market neutral strategies
After having taken a college level investment classs and being in the NAIC for about a decade, I concur with most of the results of the research here. On that note, if you are not new to investing or are comfortable with charting, you may not want to shell out big bucks for the paper version.
Thank you for a very practical, to the point no nonsense book that will have an immediate impact on my trading. I knew from the start this was going to be a good one when I read about buying pullbacks. This hit a nerve as it is how I prefer to trade, buying when everyone else are selling. I've gained invaluable knowledge from this book. The strategies will be added to my play book and they will also serve to grow within my trading style. Truly invaluable are the exit strategies. Those are as important if not more in my case as well as the strategies. If you trade I suggest you get this book. Job well done!!!

I waited a long time before reading Connors' book. Expectation's bar was high and in fact I was not totally disappointed. However, a sense of "left uncovered" pervades my mind. I think that the book is full of interesting trading strategies which need further individual investigations: statistics is rather absent and, for example, although the author provides some basic numbers about the percentage of wins for each strategy, he does not say anything about drawdown, leaving the reader doubting whether he can sustain that.On the contrary I think the book is an excellent value for money: it gives a lot of food for thought, discusses exit strategies which is an argument often overlooked, and the final paragraph (an interview with a former SEALS) is absolutely inspiring.
