OMG--the holy grail of Food forest books (this one and a few others) If you don't know anything about Martin Crawford, look up info on him on youtube there are excerpts to actually visiting his garden. This book is a MUST for permaculture or sustainable farming designers and lovers of sustainable, natural gardening. Excellent also for preppers and raw foodists and anyone who seeks autonomy and a PROCESS for growing food naturally without continually having to plant and cultivate once the process is fully underway.

This was a bit of a splurge for me; having known Martin Crawford's name for years, I was really looking forward to seeing his work in print. I must say that the actual book is a bit of a disappointment. I knew that it would be aimed at a UK audience, so that's not a strike against it. In fact, it joins wonderful works by Patrick Whitefield and John Seymour to round out the picture of British forest gardening. But despite the beautiful photography, the book is neither as practical nor as detailed as Gaia's Garden or Edible Forest Gardens. This book adds very little to what they have already contributed, with the exception of a thoughtful consideration of global climate change and its presumed effect on forest gardening, and a chapter on fungi.More damning, the text is full of typos, and several of the photographs are misplaced and mislabeled. A picture illustrating Oregon grape is actually some sort of currant, for example. Discussions of design are general to the point of frustration; the section on water use says, in essence, "in a drought you'll use more than you think" and then spends two pages on irrigation methods. Again, it's possible that a British climate requires less thought about water than the southeastern U.S., but that sort of generality pervades the book. Save your money for Jacke and Toensmeier.

This is by far my favorite gardening book...EVER. It has been not only inspiring like a lot of other good books but is so well organized that it is a reference that I find myself going back to time after time. The only thing I would warn any potential purchaser is that the author hails from England so some of the climate points are specific to his region of the world. Other than that this is in my humble opinion the absolute best book on substainable methods of gardening. It gives such a great breakdown of so many different drought tolerant plants, there light and watering requirements and of a forest garden as a whole.

A very good book with plenty of inspiration for forest gardeners in temperate climates. Martin Crawford is an expert. Gardeners in the UK will especially appreciate this work, though the concepts carry over nicely to North America as well.

This is an amazing book about forest gardening in Northwestern Europe. It is beautifully illustrated, contains information on hundreds of plants and gives practical information about the process of designing, planting and maintaining a forest garden, background information and even information on the cooking and processing of the food from the garden. Without any doubt the best book on the topic. Although I don't have (yet) a real forest garden, I have used information from the book to transform part of my garden. I must admit I have read some chapters at least 5 times, which I do only with my favourite books. It contains so much useful information and the line drawings illustrate all the principles and results.

Well written, thoughtfully organized and not just for the experts. Anyone who wants to explore the possibility of creating your own backyard food forest, of a wooded paradise on 40 acres, this is the book for you.Thank you Mr. Crawford.

The book does a pretty good job of listing the parts of a forest garden, and giving recommendations for plants for each (and has a good reference section on a wide variety of plants). I learned about a lot of plants I'd never even heard of, which is always a plus. My only real complaint is that some of the full page glossy pictures are VERY poor quality (low contrast, practically black and white). I'm not sure if its a printing error in my version or not (most of the small pictures look very nice). The problem pictures are almost exclusively the large views of the author's forest garden. Obviously I did not purchase this book for the pictures, but when friends and family ask me what a forest garden is, it is frustrating to not have any decent pictures to show.

After reading the first and lone review, I wasn't expecting much. However, I've been a Taste of Home fan for over 15 years, so wondered why the poor review. Once I purchased the book and looked through it, I was pleasantly surprised.There are many recipes in the book that look interesting to me, even though I have several IP cookbooks. Especially, there were some breakfast recipes I would actually try, including a carrot cake oatmeal. There is a Flan in a Jar dessert I am looking forward to. Thai Coconut Beef and Chicken Mole and Chicken with Olives and Artichokes gives an idea of the variety of flavors presented in the book.The Serve It on the Side chapter gives some ideas of accompaniments you can make while the main dish cooks. There are also some simple bread recipes to make to complement the IP recipes.The book is loaded with photos, which I really like. The recipes are clearly written, and there is a "time required" summary at the start of the recipe that is a helpful and a feature important to me.Each recipe has a brief comment shared by the person contributing the recipe, which is a nice touch in keeping with the Taste of Home style. Several of the recipes also have comments from Taste of Home staff about aspects of the dish. Test Kitchen Tips are included with several of the recipes. The recipes include nutritional information, which is a feature I find really worthwhile.All in all, I'm happy with this book!

I've been waiting for this to come out, and if you have ever gotten anything Taste of Home, this is up there with its usual quality. Tons of recipes, all with pictures, easy to make and follow. I've been collecting Taste of Home books for years and this is a wonderful one to add to my collection. There is everything from easy desserts, cakes and puddings to beef tips, stroganoff and lots of other classics adapted for electric pressure cookers. If you've been looking for new ideas for your instant pot, definitely worth the buy!

This cookbook has been a fun one to go through. What I appreciate most about this cookbook is how simple the recipes are and that the Instant Pot is actually used through the entirety of the recipes. So many other Instant Pot cookbooks use the Instant Pot as a way to prep certain ingredients, but this cookbook has recipes where the entire meal is made from the Instant Pot. Even with as simple as the recipes are, they are so flavorful!! So far the Cheesy Bacon Spaghetti Squash has been my favorite!

I've ordered (and returned) other IP books that supposedly were good. I didn't like them because they had odd/not common recipes and uncommon ingredients. Some were poorly written and edited. NOT THIS BOOK! It is chock full of fantastic recipes, well written and illustrated. Recipes are tested by Taste of Home (who writes a LOT of great publications). I've personally tried several recipes from this particular book and all turned out great! Most recipes have normal ingredients commonly found in most American kitchens. And all recipes have been easy to follow and have turned out amazing. I simply cannot give this one enough stars! Five stars simply is not enough. I've recommended this book to friends on my Facebook account, and I'm going to buy one for my mom as well. Buy a few of them, they'll make great gifts for your IP friends!

I was a subscriber to Taste of Home, and always looked forward to their recipes. For the most part they were simple, down to earth ingredients that you can always find around the house, andforthe most part appetising and would make again. Whereas the Taste of Home Instant Pot Cookbook does not contain the everyday meal, but ratherCuban Ropable Vieja, Beef Oslo Bucco.....what the heck are they? As a result it will be a good dust collector on the book shelf.

I assumed all recipes would be for the instant pot. NOT so. There are recipes for the slow cooker and I saw casseroles done in the oven, this is NOT what I wanted. I am surprised at TOH. I will not buy another one for the instant pot from them and I have been a loyal customer of their brand for years.

Typical of the Taste of Home cookbooks, this is another winner. Teriffic recipes with easy to follow directions.

Because Taste of Home recipes are the ones I choose repeatedly, I was delighted to find a new cookbook for my new Instant Pot. I had already bought two other Instant Pot cookbooks, but the Taste of Home recipes in this cookbook and on the Taste of Home web site are my favorites.

Want to get an accessible introduction to "fracking" (short for hydraulic fracturing)? This should do nicely. This is not a technical tome--far from it. It is a well written book aimed at a general audience. If you want a solid scientific analysis, this is not the book for you. But, if you wish to get a sense of what is at stake, this would be quite useful.The author had family land in Pennsylvania in the Marcellus Shale region (a large pool of underground natural gas). This is a personal story of his effort to learn about fracking--its history, its positive economic effects, its effects on the environment, its effects on the land. One aspect of this work struck me as positive: it is a balanced work. Russell Gold, the author, does not take sides in an overt manner. By the end of this book, I felt that I had learned quite a bit about fracking as a technique and its effects (positive and negative).In the process, one also gets a sense of the major figures in the development of the technique, such as Aubrey McClendon. There were quite a few swashbucklers, like McClendon, who tried to develop their companies as rapidly as possible. Others were more cautious. The examination of a series of key figures humanizes the book, giving us a sense of the personal side of this issue.The final chapter tries to provide an even handed analysis of fracking and its effects. Whether the author succeeds will be up to the readers to decide.

I enjoyed this book. It accomplished what I set out for which was a better understanding of modern fracking. The author gave a good inside perspective of how his parent interacted with the drilling companies. The book did dry up towards the end and the last chapters dragged and blurred together. Again the book gave me exactly what I was looking for with the education on fracking and the industry.

I'm really glad I read this book - I don't know much about fracking but wanted to get a better sense of what it was and how it has transformed this country's energy outlook. This is a perfect book for people who want to learn more about the processes, personalities and politics behind fracking in the US. Would love to see more from this author.

For years I have lived right in the middle of the fracking business and never really knew what it was. One of my sons-in-law works in it and I still didn't know what it was. This book reveals the whole thing from Day One, naming names and pointing out where they went wrong and where they went right. There is some humor, some irony and a wealth of good story telling in the volume. Any Anywhere there is oil, even in YOUR backyard, there could be fracking which could make you a millionaire. You owe it to yourself and your heirs to read this book! ... besides, you'll have a lot of fun doing it!

As a Pennsylvanian I have been subjected to endless bulletin boards and radio ads touting the benefits of Range Oil and Chesapeake Oil and natural gas their companies extract. This well documented book is a must read for those interested in how the fracking boom came to be. The other side of the beneficent coin is terrifying indeed. Read it and weep.

This is the Mother of all campaigns. The adventure everybody talks about. Did your investigators make it? How did you defeat the Mythos? It was great news when this absolute masterwork was reprinted and reconditioned. The story is fantastic and sees the players travel over the European continent with legendary challenges. Also Chaosium has terrific preps in their product range so your players can drink tea out of real Orient mugs or fill out Orient telegrams for urgent matters to Istanbul, Prague or Vienna on the way. This is a must buy and don't forget to log onto Chaosiums home page for the 5-star preps!

Definitely well worth the money. The box set really makes a good impression on first sight, and a even better one once you start reading it. The depth to which the setting and individual adventures are explored in the many books provided is staggering, and it includes a wealth of props, handouts, and even investigator ideas that are sure to provide plenty of extra entertainment should you choose to use them. Snag the physical version while you've got the chance if you want it, as I get the feeling it will soon turn into a rarity like the previous edition.

This product is truly spectacular. The most detailed campaign produce I've ever seen. In addition, I received a version that had the HIGH QUALITY Kickstarter simulacrum pieces. Most second or third printings (not sure how many) of this have a sheet of paper with an image of the simulacrum props. Mine came with the actual simulacrum props, so if those are important to you, Amazon might have old stock!

The only complaint I have is that the packing box wasn't packed well and it got dropped and broke my printed box. The game is cool. You get a ton of books and props including a heavy puzzle grade cardboard Sedefkar Simulacrum. The character sheets in the back of book 5 are cool if you're a YSDC member and listened to their campaign. It's very thorough and well done.

Chaosium Inc. updated a great camping and added to it! The box is packed so full of books and information it bows. Most Call of Cthulhu games can be a race to see who can keep from going insane first. Chaosium Inc. gave multiple options on how to make this a long term playable scenario. They include a handout book that you can pull the pages out to use right at the table. They also include a huge book of NPC's to use on the go with spaces to fill in info on the go. They did how ever not put perforations so removing the NPC so that they can be played is a pain and will destroy you copy.The best part of this campaign was the price. I picked my copy up new for about $70.00 and then purchased the PDF version of the campin from Chaosium Inc. coming in way under the $119.99 MSRP. This way I can put the info on my iPad and print out the NPC sheet and not damage my box set.

I love ir, every pice is inmersive and well done, definetily one of the greatest campaigns

Just started reading into Book 2. So far I really like it and the optional adventures. The adventure writing is where this excels as the author has the after sight of this being the second edition and reflects well on what may or may not work.I think where it fails so far is in painting a descriptive picture of the setting. I am also struggling with the names and locations of Europe as I have never been to any of these places. It would be hard for me to describe these places with what's given. My not having been to these places especially in this time period doesn't help.However, it's also well annotated with references to books and movies to paint the scenes right. It looks like I have some work to do before I play it in this regard.All in all, I don't mind generalizing descriptions of setting if the story is good, and I think it is here. Story is king for me and I am happy with the quality and amount they give you here.

Every human on this planet should read this book!It's not very long but it didn't need to be. It is heart wrenching and infuriating and inspiring and about a million other adjectives I could think of... but that's the kind of feeling we need to experience when we're reading about this type of horror. The real life, actual horror people inflict on one another, sick, twisted, wretched, heartbreaking and utterly disgustingness of what Nazi Germany really did.Elie survived, that in itself is a miracle, that he chose to share that terrible chapter of his life with all of us so that we may learn, that's his gift to us. Don't waste that.It only takes good men to do nothing for evil to prevail. Keep your eyes open, people.

This....I lack words. Mr. Wiesel has woven a tale of such epic proportions, describing in all too vivid detail the horrors of the holocaust. There is a REASON this book ranks up there with The Diary of Anne Frank as one of the definitive works for this subject matter. I was saddened to hear of Mr. Wiesel's passing. When it came time for my son to study the holocaust in school, I decided to add this book to his learning experience. This book captures the gravity of the situation, and explains the horrors, perhaps not adequately, because how could one convey that level of horror to anyone who hasn't lived it, but as well as I think is possible on paper. This is always, ALWAYS my first recommendation when the topic of holocaust literature is broached.

No one should need an excuse to re-read a book as powerful as Night, but if I needed one, the new(er) translation by the author’s wife provided it. Everything that needs to be said about this book has been said, I suppose, many times over. In its brief, straightforward narrative it captures not just the horror of the attempted extermination of Europe’s Jews, but the destruction that was wrought even in the souls of survivors. Amid all the other losses, including members of his family, the loss that persists through the book, is the narrator-author’s loss of faith, the loss of God. The one thing that might have helped make sense of the grotesque insanity was gone, and with it, a large portion of the previously pious young victim’s self and soul. Remarkably (particularly given how pious the narrator was before being herded in cattle cars with so many others to Auschwitz), the complete loss of a sense of God’s justice did not happen over the course of a long incarceration as he struggled to find meaning in the light of faith. The change was immediate, everything was lost in a day, so brutal, so thorough, was the Nazi violation. How could a just God let this happen?There are so many memorable scenes in this short book: the journey in the cramped cattle cars; the arrival at the camp; the sight, sound, and ash of the crematorium; the hanging of a child; the crusts of bread; the forced march when the camp was abandoned at war’s end; the gratuitous murders even in a place where gratuitous murder was organizing principle. And there are so many painful moments, most having to do with loss: the loss of God, the loss of identity, the loss of friends and family, in the end the loss of his father, too, who was his mainstay through most of the ordeal. But there are also moments of remembering that humanity must be preserved. As the camp was being evacuated, the prisoner’s stopped long enough to clean their prison camp. Why? To let the liberating army know “that here lived men and not pigs.” I was reminded of Italian chemist Primo Levi’s account of his imprisonment in Auschwitz, If This Is a Man, in which he describes the ex-army sergeant who washed daily, even though the water was dirty and he had only his soiled clothes to dry himself with. But he did it, and encouraged others to do the same, for the sake of dignity more than cleanliness, to remain human and to prevent the machine of war, imprisonment, and dehumanization from turning prisoners into beasts, as its masters wished it to do.This book is a ringing call to remember, and to resist injustice, ignorance, and apathy. As Wiesel said in his speech accepting the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 (reprinted at the end of this book): “We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere.”

Night, written by Elie Wiesel, is a short book that includes the narrator’s haunting personal experience with concentration camps during the holocaust. It is a necessary read full of true stories about Wiesel’s time in Nazi concentration camps. Forced out of his home as a teenager, Wiesel traveled with his family to Birkenau. He and his father embarked on the deadly and involuntary journey, moving from one death camp to another. Throughout the book, the author provides numerous anecdotes that provide the reader with an image of what these concentration camps were really like. This a mature book, but it is definitely a must read for teenagers and adults. The ideas may be a too strong for children or pre-teens. It is poignant and graphic, but gets a clear message across. If you’re looking for short read and have interest in the holocaust and the victims who suffered through it, this is the book for you. I suggest you read through the preface and the forward in the beginning of the book, as well as the author’s note at the end. All in all, this is a great book that will provide you with both information and a saddening perspective of World War II.

This is the true experience of Elie as a teenager with his dad trying to keep his father alive while surviving the holocaust. It gives you an inside view of the concentration camps and what millions of Jews experienced every day that they got to live. It is raw at times because it exposes what Elie saw with his own eyes, and the impact that it had on his thoughts and emotions at the moment.

I liked this book. I will not say I loved this book because the subject is too awful to be real. Reading this story I felt like that young boy asking "... Is this a dream..." It's hard for me, an infant of the 70's, a child of the 80's, a teen of the 90's, to believe that these atrocities ever occurred. I remember reading in history that Churchill/ Patton? (please correct me if I'm wrong) wanted pictures taken "... Because someday, there will be those who'll say 'this never happened'."I feel for the survivors, their families. I worry for my children who will learn that great men like this author are less than current winners of this prestigious award. It is up to us, the third generation, the generation that makes or erases history, "to look into that young Jews eyes and say ... That we are not forgetting [them]. When their voices are stifled, we will lend them ours"Here is my testimony in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
