Also it would have been helpful to have included lymphedema centers and support groups. Plus a few exercise photos.Other than that this book is a GREAT INTRO. to lymphedema and it's care. When your finished you will be knowledgeable and off to the doctors, plus getting books on food. I really enjoyed this book. It finally explained this lymphedema so I can continue and know what to expect and do.

This is a very informative and helpful book for anyone looking to find out more about this condition. Lymphedema is a serious thing, but some things can be done about it. It is important to learn more about it. I have a relative so I was curious what exactly is he going through with this condition, but I didn't want to bother him too much. I have a feeling that I learned a lot from this book and things are not so blurred anymore.If you have someone who suffers from lymphedema or you have it yourself, remember – knowledge truly is power. We can't do anything if don't know how, why, when or what even to do. This book can help with that.

My co-teacher's sister suffered from this disease, although at first they thought that something was wrong with her heart, liver, or kidneys. When the attending physician found nothing, he considered lymphedema.Here's my review.I love how the content of the book progressed. My sister is a nurse, so she was able to explain it to me, but reading this book gave me the layman's explanation. Now the real deal was at around 56%, when the author provided us with steps on how to deal with the condition, including how to properly choose a garment.What I wish is for the author to add some more is diet. I hope she provided us with more options and of course explanation. Other than that, this book is recommended :)

The author of this book gives no background about herself or why she is qualified to dispense this info. The basics are there, but the info is redundant and not detailed. I work with clients at risk or with lymphedema daily and would not recommend this book to them.

This book can help you identify if you have Lymphedema. You might not know you have it. If you or a loved one have it, this book can help you manage your Lymphedema. There is a lot of helpful information in this book. I would recommend reading it even if you don't have it. It may help you to identify the symptoms in someone else or help them ease their suffering. Very thin book. It’s like a doctors office pamphlet! I was shocked! It had wide margins and big font. I did find some information helpful but I could have found it out online easily!

It was really difficult to read about such things, but I wanted to know this question as my friend might has such problem. The book has very good research of this topic and explains all the symptoms with the directions how to treat , how prevent and how to deal with it. Recommend to read this book if you have this disease.

Warning y'all, this book hardly has any content and I found more information from a free pamphlet at the physical therapists. If you have lymphedema it's best to reach out to online support groups or find a physical therapist that can guide you. It's a terrible condition, but I've found more support from reaching out. This book is NOT worth 11$. 5$ tops including shipping and handling.

Not just a few pages. This thing has been revised and re-thought.Now - let me give a review worthy of both - and if you find an old copy but don't have the new one - worth getting it.This is a book for writers and creative people. Lots of "How to write..." out there but...Well...Let's take a step back.Way, Waaaayyyy back there was this wonderful essay by Poul Anderson - "On Thud and Blunder" complaining about a lot of hack work being irresponsibly published during a brief but legendary "Sword and Sorcery" boom. Now, the article is side-splittingly funny and oh, so true. I loved it, though I obviously read it much later than originally published - quick google search you'll find it online.But - I should hate it. Coz I was interested in writing stories since day one. And I did look up educational material on it. Now, you want to do electronics you can find books on how to solder, use meters, how to read resistor codes, etc. Writing - well it was like EVERY single book on it was just Mr. Anderson's essay ballooned to a book to take your $ with maybe stuff added how to suck up to the Editor, etc.Mr. Anderson did have a good point - even in a fantastic otherworld things need to 'work' - that's the essence. Certainly mediocre writing will doom even faster to obscurity uncreative bland hack-work.BUT - writing is about "The Story".In the hands of a good writer ol Gnorts the Barbarian can fight off 500 of the King's pike-men with a 50lb Wet NOODLE and there will be comics, movies, video games made of him in later decades. It's good to keep the magic, cities, names, technology, events consistant - yes - but they are paints, pencils...What ARE you drawing? What are you painting? What do you say with your painting? How does it strike or lure the reader? Are there layers of meaning...?For instance - art - you can paint a pretty picture, but what does it say. Anyone can spatter paint, but there's a big difference between Van Gogh and paint spattered on the canvas. And then look at stuff like "Isle of the Dead"... A lot more than just the image painted implied.Well - this is the book for people who want to write stories, but know the basics but want to transcend them. It's hard to put this book into a small essay here - but its about the only book I've found that wasn't the "Mind your Elves and Orcs" stuff. I don't necessarily think it'll get you published - not in the current market of tons of mediocre, PC junk and everyone wanting to be the next King, Rowling, Tolkien, Martin - and hacking out stuff imitative of them... But if you want to write YOUR stories - and it'd be nice if you made money doing it - but you are putting out your stories and want to tell them in all sorts of good ways, to discover angles you didn't think of - but after all the work and experimentation improve yourself - well I don't think there's a better book out there. Nothing is certain in life but if any book helps you unleash the talent in you so your stories are remembered after all the "i wanna be the..." are forgotten and the Martins and Rowlings fade to "Penny Dreadful" status, G-d willing.I've now bought this book THRICE.Once - got stolen...won't go into it.Again - loved it - my precious - risked getting in trouble at work to read it.And - this new one - "Shut up and take my money!" - pre-ordered it - am glad I did!

I was very excited about this book based on other reviews. I also enjoyed some of VanderMeer's work and was looking for insight into writing alternative history fiction, but I found this to be the least helpful writing book I have read.The entire book is basically structured like this: "One thing that is very important is [beats/emotion/exposition/dialogue/pacing/etc.]. You can do this well by using method A or using method B, which is the exact opposite of A. Hugo-award-winning author X excelled at using the former approach brilliantly in Book 1, and author Y's book, Book 2, has many examples of effectively using method B." Repeat, repeat, repeat. I appreciate VanderMeer highlighting certain issues that a writer needs to be aware of, (i.e. beats/emotion/exposition/dialogue/pacing) and that there is no single way to approach them--and in fact directly opposing approaches may be effective depending on what the author is trying to accomplish. BUT he almost never provides actual examples of authors effectively executing the approaches he mentions. He just names the book and the author. I have not read the majority of the books that he references, and even the books that I remembered reading, I did not recall the very specific thing that he was citing the book as an example of, so it provided no insight for me whatsoever.This was particularly a let-down as I had just read the Emotional Craft of Fiction, and that author was very good at presenting excerpts of the books that he referred to in order to illustrate the technique or process he was trying to explain. I did not always agree that the author of the cited books effectively evoked the specific emotion or response that the Emotion Craft author cited them for, but that was useful too, because every reader will not respond the same to the written word, and it was useful to see how others can respond to the same set of passages. This book, unfortunately did not do any of that, so it was almost totally without value to me because vague allusions to different techniques without any exemplars is not very useful.The only valuable things in this book--to me--were the few times he very explicitly used examples from his own writing process to illustrate how different passages and approaches accomplish different goals. It is these type of concrete examples that I find actually useful. Some of the excerpts from other authors were also very useful--particularly those that relied on specifics from their own works or minds, and didn't speak generally about the process of writing (be creative! don't be discouraged!). I also really appreciated the time and energy and creativity put into the graphics, although they too were not very useful. That is the only source of the two stars, and I really don't understand how others got so much value out of this book.

I am more than satisfied with my purchase. I own both versions, kindle, and paperback. This is by far the best creative writing textbook I have read and learned from. The chapter on characterization is worth the price. You can't rely on plot all the time. It will only get you so far. I am dyslexic, which is why I appreciate that they released a Kindle version of the book. It has quotes in many cases from prominent authors. Don't wait too long to get this or you will regret passing up on a good book. It's not philosophical. I have heard these comments to describe the book (give the book a chance, yes I am around 30 years old which makes it a somewhat dense read). To understand the book focus on the important details you want to improve on. In my case it was characterization. I even liked the challenge exercise which forces in one case to write from both characters point of view, which is in a sense a type of conflict. But conflict comes from characterization. I recommend reading it slowly or using a speech engine for when you get tired of reading. I haven't finished it yet, but just because I gained insights. Just before character arcs, there are a set of questions that help you flesh out your character or plot. A plot can be developed with some strategies, some examples include the symbolic life of objects, kinds of characterization. Even though he doesn't advocate it outright, biographical tidbits of your characters life. Action versus thought, consistency versus inconsistency, transfer of energy. I have a 400 downloaded collection of Kindle books. Do yourself a favor. Since this is the best book I have personally read, give it a chance before giving your money away to many preying booksellers and authors, who don't know enough to explain the craft.

I love Paulo Coelho books and I have read most of them. I think this is my least favorite. I have found it hard to get absorbed into the story. I’m not particularly interested in the characters and I am a little bored. The only reason I finished the book is because the author is Pauli Coelho. Any other author and I would have not finished it.

Coelho's The Winner Stands Alone is the most graphic and revealing portrait of our particular era's pathology -- everyone in one way or the other is infected with the 'rich and famous' syndrome. Igor exemplifies the dishonesty and false ideals by killing for 'love'. He feels justified in looking down on all the tiers of celebrity mania -- from those who come to worship from a distance to those who aspire for a place in the ranks at the cost of any personal sacrifice, to those who are drawn into celebrity industries (models, actors, designers, agents, producers, et al.) to those who have reached one pinnacle or another and only congregate with other superclass members, to the endless tiers of marketers 'placing' their products, ad nauseam. (FYI: In a Sopranos episode in which Christopher goes to a Hollywood event and mugs Lauren Bacall for her bag of free designer goodies, the insanity of this culture is made crystal clear.) The Garden of Earthly Delights has been reduced to the lowest common denominator -- make money or be famous or die. Even Igor's love is just an expression of his egomania. I personally could not put this book down.

I like Paulo Coelho. I read a couple of his books and definitely felt his point about life. The Alchemist is definitely a favorite. This book was good and pretty much talks about the price of getting what you really want or think you want. He does a good job in the characters and seeing what their true goals are. How some got to the pinnacle of what they wanted and found the prize or price wasn't worth it. There are definitely lessons in this book. I don't think it was the best book of his I have read but I did gain some good insights from it.

Coelho is a master writer, no question there, but for me his best works are still "The Alchemist" and "Devil and Ms Prym". The narrative in those two novels is by far the best developed. I wept by the river Piedra while I read the book with the same title, I didn't "get" the witch book named after a mushroom, I liked "Zahir" but felt it was overdone. "The Manual" is excellent and his collections of short wisdoms are just brilliant.With "Winner stands alone", Coelho entered a new realm, usually covered by heavyweights like Umberto Eco, in which novel is made of bits and pieces of popular culture, celebrity, news, cultural theory and documentary-like material which binds the narrative. It is all a good read, but Igor is a bit overdone, from the point when he does his first "kung fu" move. I have seen (read) something like that only in Bruce Lee movies. Nice touch, but a little out of place and reads like a dead blonde that falls out of a trunk just when needed to rescue a dysfunctional part of the story. If I rated this book based on "The Alchemist", it would get no more than two stars.However, in the sea of poorly written books, Coelho's works are a treat and each one deserves five stars. Don't miss it. For the real thing, however, cultural criticism, you have to pick up Umberto Eco's works (essays in particular).

Not Coelho’s best work. It’s a lot more pessimistic than a lot of his work. Character development was certain far more detailed than Coelho usually gets, which is a plus, but the story’s resolution leaves you wanting more.

I loved the storyline but thought that the ending was anticlimactic. The Alchemist is a much better read for me.

Riveting plot line and mystery with excellent character development. Entertaining and with a bold message about human nature and the things that push people to their limits.

I like to have some books at the house when the grand kids come to visit. They picked this one out.....It's a fun book for them to read along with me.

I'm going to side with every other member of this book's fan club. I bought his because I have a beautiful little boy who has some very specialized challenges, and I loved the message this book sends...that you can be different, you can even not be good at certain things in other people's eyes, but there can still be something beautiful only you can contribute. And I want my son to know and to hear that message that just like Gerald the Giraffe, he's got a very special dance that he'll be able to do. And I want him to be able to see that it's possible too, because I know sometimes it can be hard, especially when you're in therapy all the time and therapy is all about what's not going well and what's not going like normal, so I truly think this book has great value especially for kiddos who may struggle to do things the way other people "normally" do. It sends a very nice "yes you can" message, and I love it.

Let me start by saying that I absolutely love this book, and so does my daughter. The rhymes are lovely (except for a slight break in rhythm on the very last one), the pictures are fun and full of great detail, and the story about finding oneself and not succumbing to peer pressure and stereotypes is great and important!However... I really think the cricket does not get enough credit! In fact, Gerald almost becomes a bit cocky in the end, as if he had achieved this feat of realizing his potential all by himself, when, in fact, without the cricket he still wouldn't believe in himself. And here I think the book misses a great opportunity to emphasize the value of friendship, empathy, and helping others.Luckily, this can be fixed very easily. I therefore added a final rhyme to the book that I think adds to the value. I hope others may find it useful as well. It goes as follows:Just sometimes we need a friend to help,to find out song and tune.And to the cricket Gerald said:I found mine, thanks to you!:)

There's a reason this book is a top seller, it's adorable! I first read this book in a toddler book club when I was a nanny, I now read this book to my own children. I have read this book probably a hundred + times (not an exaggeration) and I still love it. I haven't found a child who didn't like this book, it's so cute. Great story, nice colorful illustrations. I highly recommend this book!

My husband and I have mixed feelings about the message this book sends. We both agree there seems to be a moral here, but what it is in unclear. I believe this book is suggesting that after the giraffe was teased, he found a way to not only fit in but be better than all the other animals. Why does the giraff have to dance to be liked by the others? Couldn’t the giraffe find another activity he excels at and be happy with himself? I don’t normally have these reactions to my infant son’s books and I’m giving this one away.

Giraffes Can't Dance is a great read that promotes confidence and positive self-esteem in children, as well as empathy and respect for people who are different. The book is about a giraffe named Gerald who wants to dance, but is continuously made fun of and shunned by other animals. He finally meets a cricket that tells him that everyone is capable of accomplishing their dreams in their own unique way. Originally, I bought this book for a pre-k class, and the kids loved it so much that we made animal masks and had our own dance party, showing off our unique dance moves. I have also bought this book for my children, and have given it as a present to several others. I highly recommend this book to anyone.I have only purchased the board book, and it has held up very well over the past 2 years. It's about 29 pages long and very sturdy.

This book is amazing, easily the favorite book in our toddler's library! Unlike other books, I never get tired of reading it over and over. On the surface, its about a giraffe dancing, but it goes so much deeper than that. It's about a giraffe who IS TOLD by others that he can't dance and is laughed off by all the animals. The giraffe gets great advice that allows him to be himself, find his own style, and not care about what others think. Suddenly the giraffe is dancing and all the other animals who had sneered are now watching him in awe. The message is to believe in yourself, do what makes you feel happy, you are amazing in your own way. The illustrations are colorful and engaging, and the rhythm/rhyme in the story make this ideal for a wide age range (infant to elementary age).

I'm a preschool teacher so I not only read a lot of books, I can tell when a book is good or not. This book is so cute and has a wonderful message at the end of the story; basically don't worry about what others think or say about you, as long as you believe in yourself and like yourself, that's all that matters. The illustrations are colorful and fun. I love stories that rhyme because children seem to sometimes enjoy the story more and this book delivers. Lastly, since becoming a parent, I can see how this being a board book can be easy to travel with in the diaper bag so that the story can be read on the go in the car or at grandma's house. Overall a great book.
