The author is Donal Miller. A good review of the ghost towns in Montana. One thing that I did not like was that it looks like this might be a different book then the other one (Similar name, green cover) offered by Donald Miller just by looking at the cover, author, and Amazon. BEWARE! These books are identical or near identical. I am not able to see a difference between the material simply by looking through both of them (other than the published dates). Since neither was expensive I kept both but unless you want two copies you can save some money and just pick one.

The author and his daughter (who put out this "new" which doesn't seem to have updated any information from the nearly four decade-old original) obviously love ghost towns. They also seem to fear that people will vandalize, rob, or destroy these ghost towns. It's my feeling that such miscreants wouldn't go to such great lengths as to purchasing/checking out this book just so they could go vandalize something. Why provide such tantalizingly great information and then not give hardly a clue as to where these towns exist? Obviously the original author didn't have the internet back in the 1970's but his daughter does now. Does she realize that there are entire websites dedicated to locating (and preserving) these towns, even the one they want to keep secret by calling it "Montana Mystery Town"?I had hoped to find a guide to the many ghost towns in the state I live in and love. I now have great information on each town, but have to go to a secondary source to locate them if I want to visit them.

I knew this book was 30 plus years old but some of the ghost towns have degraded even more than I would have guessed. Also, the directions to some of the sites is about 30 years out of date as well. It would be nice to have someone update the content and include actual GPS data and be less secretive about the towns.

this is a good book. it names a lot of the ghost towns of Montana. where they are and how to get to them. it would be handy to have the large Gazette map book to see where you are going. good information on the ghost towns and what they are near and what they were before becoming a ghost town. good book to have if you like to explore ghost towns

This book has been very helpful in planning some family vacations for a hobby. The pictures assist in the type of things to see and also telling if it is public or private has saved numerous mile on the car. If you never get to go see the towns it is still very much worth the read

The photos really stand out to show what an incredibly hard life these early homesteaders, miners, and their families must have encountered. You do need a state map to get a general idea where many of these ghost towns were/area.

A tough read, a bit hard to get through, but very thorough as I suspect he needed to be. Anyway, all real scientists already know about the cambrian explosion. Meyer once again nails every last little detail to the wall and leaves no doubt, again well done.

MeyerI highly recommend reading this book. it isn't an easy read, but very interesting and well worth reading with an open mind.When Darwin wrote his famous 1859 treatise on the Origin of Species, there were two issues he glossed over: 1.) The origin of the first living cell, and 2.) The so-called Cambrian, or Silurian, explosion of complex animals. At the time, he, and scientists in general, knew nothing about the details of the functioning of a biological cell, but believed that life somehow originated in the chemical soup that supposedly existed early in the earth’s history. He also acknowledged that the sudden emergence of the Cambrian era animals cast great doubt on his theory of evolution through random mutations and natural selection over long periods of time. However, he expected that later discoveries of fossils would show ancestors of the Cambrian animals in earlier geological strata.Since Crick and Watson deduced the structure of DNA in 1953, based on then-recent work of many biological scientists, science has come to understand that the work of DNA, RNA, and other molecular structures in a living cell is based on highly complex functionally specific code. In his earlier book, “The Signature in the Cell,” Dr. Meyer, citing the work of many modern biological scientists, mathematicians and others, showed that for such complexity to have arisen by chance arrangement of the nucleotide building blocks of life would have required many times the number of available chances in the life of the universe. The post log to the latest edition addresses the criticisms that have been written on that earlier work.In this book Dr. Meyer addresses Darwin’s Cambrian doubt and builds on his earlier book by pointing out the even greater complexity (by many orders of magnitude) of the specified information required to arrange cells into complex animal body plans, such as the 20 or so new phyla found in the Cambrian layers. Even with deep sea drilling, deep drilling on land and in other forms of exploration, scientists have yet to discover any significant fossils of the supposed ancestors of the Cambrian animals. Dr. J.Y. Chen, a Chinese paleontologist and an expert on the Cambrian era fossil deposits discovered in China, was once asked when presenting his findings at the University of Washington if he wasn’t worried about contradicting Darwin, quipped, “in China we can criticize Darwin, but we can’t criticize the government. In the United States, you can criticize the government, but you can’t criticize Darwin.”As Dr. Meyer points out in this book, “Scientists attempting to explain the origin of life must explain how both information-rich molecules and the cell’s information-processing system arose.” As he further notes, “Whenever we find functional information—Whether embedded in a radio signal, carved in a stone monument such as the Rosetta Stone, etched on a disk, or produced by an origin-of-life scientist attempting to engineer a self-replicating molecule — and we trace that information back to its ultimate source, invariably we come to a mind, not merely a material process.”In “Darwin’s Doubt” Dr. Meyer examines the various theories that attempt to explain the geologically sudden emergence of so many new, fully formed animal body plans, and shows that each theory, however subtly, postulates pre-existing information-rich sources of data upon which their theory is based. For example, scientists have discovered entities called developmental gene regulatory networks (dGRNs) that play a key role in the development of a grown animal from an embryo. Studies have determined that simple random individual changes in the dGRN will destroy the organism. Any changes in one part must be coordinated with changes in the other parts, which again requires an enormous infusion of new information. After examining the many theories that scientists have proposed and demonstrating essentially the same flaw in each of them (i.e., the supposition of a pre-existing source of the complex information required), Dr. Meyer concludes that intelligent design is the only explanation that meets the necessary scientific criteria to truly explain the origin of life and the complex form in which all life exists today. In arriving at that conclusion, he uses the same scientific method used by Charles Darwin and most other scientists trying to understand historical events; that is, the abductive method of inference to the best explanation based on currently known processes. In this case, the known process is that complex, functionally specified information is, in our everyday experience, created only by an intelligent agent. Since no scientific theory has yet been proposed that shows any means other than design by an intelligent agent, Dr. Meyer argues that intelligent design is the best, most scientific explanation available today. This is especially true since all of the other purportedly materialistic naturalistic theories that have been proposed start off by assuming the prior existence of the vast amounts of complex specified information necessary to the existence of any life form. They fail to explain where that information came from in the first place. Intelligent design, and only intelligent design, explains the origin of vast amounts of functionally specified information.

If you are a thinking person and you have ever doubted the existence of God, this book will give you a lot to think about.. Evolution has been debunked for what it really is, a theory, not scientific fact. Thinking people can now know that there is a creator and we no longer have to believe we evolved from nothing starting with a "Big Bang" and continuing by chance. I do not know about anyone else, but I prefer to think I was created and not evolved from a lower form of life on planet earth. I also know that there are many who do not believe or think as I do. All I say is, read the book before you judge.

The more scientists learn about the complexity of life, the more difficult it is to believe in Darwin's theory of evolution. This book presents a compelling case for examining intelligent design as a more plausible source of information in DNA than mutations and selection. It is easy to understand and enjoyable to read.

This is a sequel to Stephen Meyer's first in this area, "Signature In The Cell." It is a continuation of the hypothesis of Intelligent Design in the creation of life on this planet, highlighting the increasing number of problems found in Darwin. Darwin, BTW, was quite aware that his theory of evolution did NOT address the ORIGIN of living cells, only their evolution in response to changing environments and other impacts of nature. Make no mistake, this is not a text of opinion or hypothesis ... it is based on factual evidence found in molecular and chemical biology. The fact is that Darwin's theory of natural selection can do nothing to explain the origin of a life form nor the source of novel variation. All natural selection can do is to "select" various traits that already exist. How did that life form spring into existence in the first place? THAT is the question! The fact is that Darwin, dead now for 137 years, had NO IDEA about the tremendous growth in the biological sciences since his theory was first published. He did not know about the magic -- and the power -- that lies in every living cell, about the operations of the literally millions of sub-cellular organisms, including the workings of RNA and DNA. I'm a little over 100 pages in, and the author's already got me pretty much convinced. He presents a pretty tireless array of verses supporting his thesis, most of which are rendered with little to no meaning above an almost pointless poetic esotericism without his arctic interpretation in mind. I'm very impressed at just the sheer quantity of evidence he is able to point to in order to support his case. I would have given it 5 stars just for the amount of valuable information I'm getting, but there are minor issues with the printing: (I got the Arktos 2011 Edition) There are frequent typos, spaces or periods that don't belong, etc (neither of which impede the understandability of the text; not a big deal, but noticeable), AND, more frustratingly, the author makes references in the first couple chapters to different graphs and figures he drew out to illustrate his explanation of certain phenomenon related to precession which are not replicated in the text. Fortunately, I had read about these phenomenon before, and so was able to follow, with a bit of difficulty, and pick up the gist. Also fortunately, only a few pages each were devoted to talking about these non-replicated figures; it wasn't too big of a deal either. I'm glad I bought it, but, all the same, think the book's overall published quality could have benefited from a better editing process.

Bal Gangadhar Tilak is the Benjamin Franklin of India. He was an early advocate of Indian independence from Great Britain as well as a journalist, teacher, and scholar. In this work, Talak takes the Vedic Hymns and seeks to determine where the Indo-Europeans originated.His determination-somewhere north of the Arctic Circle.He makes his case by examining the hymns and applying what they say to known astrological data, historical climates, and past geologic conditions. It's a compelling case, especially when he compares Hindu myths to how the sky and stars appear in the far north.The book is dense with facts. In addition to the above, Tilak compares the mythologies of other Indo-European people to make his case along with some references to the Hebrew Old-Testament.A mind expanding book at a minimum.

A great book but poorly and lazily formatted, a more competent publisher would have been wonderful. As it is, its poorly formatted, footnotes appear in the middle of the page, symbols randomly appear. Tilak is a good writer and thinker and deserved better than this.

Mind blowing that history experience has been so narrowly awakened until I read Tilak's possibility (probability) that our cultures have evolved in a completely different scenario than usually portrayed

Undoubtedly, this book is very innovative. Written well beyond its perceived time - portions of the book seem futuristic. Bal Gangadhar Tilak's approach is innovative and quite non-traditional. Tilak definitely was thinking differently from his kinsmen when he wrote the book. Though his theory is not exactly accepted, but it definitely leaves room for thought. The text in the Vedas is not easily understood - pre-dated Sanskrit was Dev-Bhasa – spoken differently with fewer complexities than its morph in latter periods like the Axial times and the rest of CE. There is much that needs to be explored around the Vedas – beyond the dogmas into what may have prevailed at the time they were written. This book is perfect for those looking to seek answers without being bogged down by ritualism, dogmas and blind faith.

I was familiar with the tragic death of Mr. Woodruff as I had worked at US Embassy Tbilisi in the 90s, and had been responsible for processing a number of FOIA requests related to the case. More recently, I thought the matter had been completely forgotten so I was pleased to see the a book had been written about it. I enjoyed the book and I think the author nailed the cultural and political complexities of the era pretty well. However, although there were certainly grounds to be suspicious, I think the author's opinion that Russian intelligence was behind Mr. Woodruff's death is just speculation based on poor analysis and questionable sources. More likely than not, the fellow who was convicted was probably the shooter who killed Mr. Woodruff when he took a drunken potshot at a passing car. Although I don’t agree with the author’s conclusion, this was a good read and would probably make for a good movie.

A most compelling read. Every page filled with political intrigue. A spider's-web of information about post-USSR/Georgian/USA cunning relationships all centered about the murder of a CIA agent. Kudos to the author for his perseverance in getting to the truth behind the murder of CIA agent Freddie Woodruff.

This is a Great Story, even greater because it is ALL TRUE. It required many years of research. It is interesting to learn about the world of spying.Michael Pullara is a great storyteller. I loved his word choices and descriptions of so many people, events and places. I see why reviews include the comment 'this is his first book.' This is spell binding reading. It will also make a great movie.The Russian names are a bit of a challenge. In the front of the book Mr. Pullara has put a key to all of the names. I kept a sticky note there to help me quickly check on people.

I stopped reading a little over a quarter of the book. I wanted to learn about this murder and how the various governments reacted to it. It was more about the author and his feelings. If there was a "hook" in the story to keep me interested, I could not find it by page 102.

Brilliant first person story. Riveting account of an unknown international incident on the personal level. Great detail. Superbly written. I could not put it down. Hopefully, the author will write more !
