This was the first of a few books I got for my nieces, so they can better understand their autistic brother.I like how at the start of the book, we see how Julia and Elmo both like to play with their toys (also showing there is no right or wrong way to play). Then Abby comes along in the story, and is introduced to Julia. Now Abby was told early on that Julia is Autistic, and she’s quick to accept that, which even now is rare in real life.Now all that said, I do have a few issues:First, the person-first language (i.e. “muppet with autism”, “Julia has autism”), even though most autistic people prefer identity-first language (i.e. “autistic muppet”, “Julia is autistic”). PFL makes autism sound like an illness, when in reality, it is simply an atypical wiring of the human brain that can be disabling, which IFL acknowledges.Second, this story is never told from Julia’s POV. Only Elmo’s. Sure, most kids who read this book might not be autistic, but what about the ones who are? Wouldn’t it be better to write a story about autism from an autistic character’s point-of-view? I’m sure we’ll see another book about autism, from Julia’s perspective, somewhere down the line.But aside from that, this is a decent book!

I absolutely love this book. My 8 year old son has autism and it has been so self-affirming to him to see an autistic character on one of his favorite shows. He, and his 3 year old sister, both love the story and pictures. I'd recommend this book to every household with young kids, whether they have a kid with autism or not. The younger kids learn about autism, the less likely they are to think autistic kids are weird when they get to school.

I'm in tears. This is progress. Thank you sesame Street for doing what is right for the future of our children. Ultra grateful for the positive boldness to believe in these kids' exceptional giftedness as much as the parents and educators who love and care for them.

My amazing daughter loves this book especially the part where they are swinging! She was diagnosed about a year ago and making friends can be a challenge and this book laid it out in a beautiful way then anyone could understand sometimes did things a little differently but we still enjoy all of the same things that typical kids off Spectrum enjoy.

I teach in an integrated preschool classroom and after we read this book, it opened up discussions for us about our integrated students. It was most helpful for typically developing kids who were focused on what was different about our ASD kids. They are now able to focus on commonalities rather than differences.

My 6 yr old daughter has autism and this book is perfect for explaining autism to her and other children. Totally made me cry the first time I read it to my kids- thank you Sesame Street for bringing Julia into our lives!

My 5 year old son has Autism. I actually bought this book for my 2-year-old daughter because she loves Elmo, but I love how it describes Autism and how to interact with kids who have Autism. Perfect for kids who have a family member or friend with Autism.

So happy to be able to purchase this for my son. I love having a book that helps explain to him about other kids who might not be exactly the same as him. Preparing him young will help him be ready to love all people when he’s older. Cute book!

I absolutely loved Yes She Can. It is a book I will recommend to my students without hesitation. The narrators shared their stories beautifully and demonstrated a wide array of interests. The authors themselves represented many different backgrounds, and many cultures and lifestyles were discussed. Each entry had a great message or lesson for a young reader to take away: the need to ask questions, to get over self-doubt, to stay unapologetically who you are, to look out for your team, to accept that change is hard but it will be amazing and worth it, and that mistakes will be made but you can overcome them. Young girls, regardless of an interest in politics, should read this book because it will help them to feel empowered and it will hopefully encourage them to get involved in something. It was an engaging read that brought all of the feels.

I love this book.... it really fills in alot of blanks. I am new to photographing models and this book has really helped me out. I have also been lucky enough to have attended 3 of his workshops and have signed up for another two. The model on the cover is Holley Dorrough, April 2006 Playmate. Rolando shot her photo submission to Playboy. I got to meet Holley in Las Vegas earlier this year at one of Rolando's workshops. She was incredible... and so nice. The other models had nowhere near the success Holley has had, yet her model release fee was the same as the other girls. Holley's parents saw one of my images of her that I shot and want it for their living room wall where currently the only two they have on their wall are two shot by Rolando. I am a big fan of Rolando's, without whom I would have probably never gotten into model photography. When I go back through the book, I remember things he lectures about before the shooting starts at the workshop. Rolando likes to drill in key factors to watch for. I have had several photo-shoots where in the end they could have been better had I applied some of the things he talked about. The man knows what he is talking about.

Not a fan of the writing style nor layout of this book. The photos are very non remarkable for the most part. The photographer describes his style in the book, it's not mine and perhaps I'm biased? But I don't think skin should be THAT yellow. There's a time and a place for flash gels but imo most of the photos in this book are way overboard, very jaundiced looking.As for the homemade fluorescent light setup mentioned in other reviews. Unless you wish to spend time in photoshop removing the very distracting and very strange eye reflections, don't bother. The light looks...uh...fluorescent, I suppose, but not particularly soft fluorescent as there's no soft box or any other filter in front of it. With 4 catchlights in the models eyes in examples from the book I would definitely alter that plan. VERY INFORMATIVE FILLED WITH BEAUTIFUL IMAGERY

I like this book as it really gets to the point and keeps it simple for beginners. However, at times it was almost too simple, and this is not simple photography. The quality is excellent and the models are beautiful.What I would have liked is a bit more technical analysis on the shot. He does explain in most what he used, but a graphical would have been better. Also, this assumes you have all the same equipment, but for a beginner, i don't, and I wanted to learn how to get a good shot with what's available or easily obtained...window light examples would have been great. Because the title suggests that you could do this with almost nothing but light and a woman, i figured it would be much simpler suggestions and ideas. There is no way you can achieve some of those things he shows through a simple/basic "garage" set up.Overall, great book, and a good addition to a collection. Just not really aimed at a "garage" amateur or beginner. I do recommend it with that expectation.

As a long time professional photographer I feel I can always pick up something new from any book on photography I read. Unfortunately this was not the case. There were very few really top quality images in this book and they were mixed with a lot of poor images. The equipment that he used was very limiting, it was like he was pushing certain brands. Normally I would say it may be good for beginners but in this case I feel they would be lead astray. If you are going to write a book about photography every image should be of top quality, and you should explain the alternatives of the different kinds and brands of equipment available. You should explain how you are using this particular piece of equipment and why you are using it, and what effect it produces. I was so disappointed in this book I sent it back for a refund, and I have a very extensive library of photographic books, in the hundreds. Don't waste your time buying this book.
