I gave it a 3 for my experience. From a cost to usefulness ratio the kindle edition for 3$ was fine, sort of. All thi info I already read online from a TD Ameritrade youtube vids and help guides. Had I paid 20$ for this I would have been furious. Only if the internet did not exist is this book of any use. Really curious about the other reviews now frankly. Nothing stood out and had to research some terms used that he did not explain. I have yet to make a single investment into a stock etc and only been curious a year or so, I would certainly consider myself brand new but a few google searches and this book is of no use. But it's 3$ kept me occupied on half a sunday.

I was able to learn how to start investing in mutual funds. Author provided all necessary information from creating an account. I really found the answers to the questions that interested me on this topic. Of course, in order to take such responsible steps, you need to make informed decisions and have the knowledge that I got from this book.

Very much a bare bones minimum investment book. Great for those who know NOTHING about investing and investment types but not as meaty for those people who are not vastly knowledgeable but have a better understanding of investing. Good reading book either way

I bought this for my princess granddaughter who only wants to wear dresses but must wear pants under them to school. It's a cute story, not a literary masterpiece. She enjoyed it and it made the point I wanted to make.

One of my very favorite books!!!! Bought for my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter who is obsessed with her princess dresses and her Mom is very anti traditional “princess” everything! I loved reading it and my granddaughter loved listening. Can’t recommend it highly enough!

I buy a lot of books for my granddaughters and this one is the best. The story is engaging and each page is amazing. My granddaughter had just told my daughter that she was a princess and could only wear dresses to be beautiful. Ha

We purchased this book as a gift for our niece whose 4 years old. She asked for this one specifically and when she opened it on Christmas morning, she was ecstatic. Score one for the Uncle!

This is such a pretty book with a cute story. I loved the illustrations. My 5 year old grand daughter likes to play dress up in her princess dresses. She is learning to read. As we read it I showed her how every book needs an author, an illustrator, and a publisher before it comes to her! The author, Savannah Guthrie, is one of my favorite NBC Today Show hosts.

This is such a great book! The story offers children a different way to view what a princess should look like. The emphasis is on what she DOES, not how she looks. My girls giggled through the entire story and they loved the illustrations. The last couple pages (very unexpectedly) brought tears to my eyes. Such a fantastic book that will surely make a lasting impression in our youngest girls. Well done!

I preordered this book back in February because I loved the way Savannah Guthrie talked about the book and the concept behind it. Girls are more than just pretty dresses and sparkles. It is a lovely book, with wonderful illustrations.My favorite line in the book reads: She loved to sparkle, loved ruffles, too. "But I wear pants," she said " 'cause I've got things to do!"Just buy the book, you won't be disappointed. Thanks Savannah for a great story!

I don't think I have ever reviewed a book on Amazon before...I buy a lot of books as I homeschool several children and have a nice sized library. I bought this book when I heard this catchy tune and found out there was a book coming out. I ONLY wanted to song...a cute story in itself. Another poster said it appeared obvious there was a rush in the making of this book to get it out for Christmas and that was the only review that scared me some.Today my book arrived and it certain looks far from any rushed copy. I am THRILLED with this book, it is the song with illustrations that are second to none. They are crazy, whimsical, and fun!!!!! My daughter is two so she wasn't really part of this craze but she still enjoys this story.The book is hardcover. Underneath the book sleeve is a beautiful glossy version of the cover. As you read through the book the animation is breathtaking. She unique and quirky like the song. You also can't help but want to sing it while reading it.The chorus is a fun part. My daughter giggles every time. It's a great way to bond and have fun before bed. I had her listen to the song a few times but she definitely prefers the book for now.I reccomend this to any parent looking for a fun book to read. It sets itself apart from every book for sure. It reads fully through the entire song. You literally are reading the lyrics which I think is really cool.

I saw this book in a bookstore when the song came out a couple years ago and did not purchase it then, but often wished I had. Now I have a 3 year old grandson who loves being read to...and I have read every Dr Seuss book to him at least 125 times each so I was looking for something different. Came across this book and knew I had to get it for him! With free Prime Shipping it was less $10 which was awesome- 2 days later we received this fun book! We love it! It is silly. and I challenge anyone reading this to NOT sing it as you are reading it!

If you have kids or grand kids who love the video, be content with that and don’t buy this outlandish book. The pages may follow along with the song, but the pictures are ridiculous scribble that hold little interest with children. Our kids won’t even look at this book, although they absolutely love the video. I have never thought any children’s book purchase was a mistake…..until now.

I ordinarily don’t complain but found this publication to be sub-standard in quality, color, cost and the condition it arrived in.So, I chalk it up to an unfortunate purchase. Do yourself a favor, if you want the lyrics, go online and print them out. One might say the drawings are imaginative and perhaps in a video format might prove more engaging but the colors of the publication are drab and lackluster.Given the bent condition it arrived in not certain my local library would even want to add it to its collection if I donated it.One of my less satisfactory purchases on Amazon.

I bought this for my friends' two-year-old, and it's her favorite book! She loves making the fox noises along with her parents. Bonus: the illustrations are really nice, I was surprised at the quality. I recommend this book for a fun, interactive experience with your kids.

My kids are naturally obsessed with the song, and reading it together has been great! The kids love it so much as do I.

This book is filled with interesting trivia about police work, but it doesn't really help me write a character. I don't know why the author thought it would be helpful to describe in detail the inner workings of fingerprint and DNA analysis machines, but never actually describes what those machines look like or how to operate them. Lofland clearly has a lot of experience in law enforcement, and did an absolute ton of research for this book, but I don't think he spoke to enough writers before setting out to write this "guide." Even after reading the book, I have no idea what a day in the life of a police detective is really like, though I could tell you all about the equipment they use and the laws they enforce.The book would have been a lot more helpful if some of that abstract information were more effectively paired with personal stories or hypothetical situations. It's important to know what type of equipment the police use, but it's more important we understand an officer's daily duties and relationship within a department. What does a typical detective's bullpen look like? What's a typical day in the "office" for a detective vs. a patrol officer? What's the typical relationship between the different ranks and the chief/sheriff? One of the challenges is that Lofland is trying to comprehensively cover ALL police departments, which is virtually impossible without writing a dictionary-sized book. More personal anecdotes and stories from real policemen and women would have been much more helpful.I found the most compelling and helpful areas where Lofland goes into detail about his experience on the force, but they're far too rare, and they sometimes feel like the author is trying too hard to sound like a cliche crime writer than provide helpful details for other writers, which comes off as slightly self-congratulatory and a little egocentric. I forgave those areas, though, because it shows that the author has a passion for crime writing, despite the execution.I don't want to trash the book, though. Lofland deserves credit for this extensively researched beast. He just needed to spend more time figuring out what information writers need when researching a character and their job.

This book will be on my writing desk for years to come. While not a complete replacement for first-hand, in-the-field research (laws, rules, and regs still vary from place to place), this is a must-have reference for mystery/crime writers. This is a very comprehensive but well-organized 360+ page work containing "standard" information that would apply virtually anywhere, compiled by an author who is a veteran police officer and detective, and written in easy-to-understand language.Want to know how a cop becomes a detective? ...how much of the average C.S.I. episode is based on reality? ...the fine points of fingerprinting and DNA testing? ...what a body looks like after an autopsy? ...what it's really like inside a prison? These questions don't even scratch the surface of what's inside this treasure trove of information.From arrest and search procedures to courts and the legal process, this book will help you write a book that crackles with the authenticity of accurate police procedure and investigation knowledge. Four appendices provide a glossary of terms, a listing and explanation of Police 10 Codes (now I know more than just "10-4"!), drug quantity tables, and a federal sentencing table.I can only imagine the hours I will save over the years by having this book on my reference shelf.

I'm always looking for great reference books, especially those related to crime. This one delivers. Lofland writes in clear, easy to understand terms and leaves nothing to inference. From this book you'll learn the basics about each type of law enforcement agency, procedure, crime scene investigation, equipment, autopsies, and all that CSI stuff that TV makes looks so easy peasy but in reality is not. Simply stated, this is one of the best crime/police reference books I've ever come across.I also wouldn't mind doing his Writer's Police Academy course but that's a story for another day.Highly recommend to anyone writing crime stories or who has an interest in law enforcement and crime investigation.

I expected a bit more diversity in the examination of police procedure but it only focuses on the American system. I wish the description had been clearer that this is ONLY about America's system. If it had been a bit more open about that, I probably wouldn't have spent the money.If you are looking to research America's police system in its present form today, then yes, this will give you what you need to know.But if you're looking at police systems examined beyond America or even any point of history outside of present day, this is not the book to use. Look elsewhere.

This book is a must have for writers who need to cover police procedures in their stories but have only experienced these procedures through the eyes of Hollywood. Author Lee Loffland does an excellent job of both presenting the procedure, explaining the hows and whys of it, but also presenting methods to incorporate these procedures in your writing. Loffland takes very mundane and technical processes and places them before the layman in an understandable, and useable, format.The only issue with this book is that, since technology has changed police procedures dramatically in the past few years, the techniques may be somewhat dated. The principles are still there, but the actual physical process may have changed. Digital fingerprint technology is an example, replacing almost all standard printing techniques. But these shortcomings are not a detriment to the book, just an area where an author may need to do some follow-up research. Which they should be doing anyway.If you write in crime, mystery, thrillers or even many romance and drama genres, this is a reference work that should be on your bookshelf. Or electronic reader. Technology hasn't just changed police procedures...
